The getaway package known as "Stay Free Day Three," offered by a number of hotels in Martin County, has been extended through Dec. 31.

During the holidays, visitors can book a reservation for two nights and get the third night free, based on availability, with rates as low as $69 per night. The program was scheduled to end this month, but has been extended.

Participating hotels in Stuart include Best Western Downtown, Colorado Downtown, Howard Johnson Hotel, Ramada Inn and the Inn Shepard's Park Bed and Breakfast.

In Jensen Beach, the Caribbean Shores Hotel and Cottages, Casa D'Este Inn Bed and Breakfast, Driftwood Motel, and River Palm Cottages and Fish Camp.

Participating in Port Salerno are the Manatee Pocket Inn and the Pirates Cove Resort and Marina.

In addition to a free night's stay, visitors may also take advantage of the Sailfish Saver program, which offers discounts at local stores, restaurants and attractions.

Terri Monaghan, executive director of the Martin County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said Martin County participates in Florida's Downtowns and Small Towns marketing campaign, which attempts to draw repeat visitors to the cultural and historical attractions of downtowns and villages.

Ms. Monaghan said the newly formed Convention and Visitors Bureau is, "an offshoot of the Tourism Development Council, and is funded by Florida's Tourist Development Tax." Also known as the "Bed Tax," it adds 2 percent to the cost of renting and leasing hotel or motel accommodations in Florida for stays of less than six months.
