BREVARD -- Get ready to belt out some of your favorite show tunes, as the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents "The Best of Broadway" on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the concert, which will be hosted at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Students and children, younger than 18, are free.
Artistic director Aaron Collins will lead the SCSO.
"We've had the pleasure to perform a few all-Broadway programs in the past," he said. "Whether it was a large production, with a full cast of singers and dancers, or an intimate concert setting, our audiences left with a smile."
Mr. Collins said that for this concert, the SCSO will highlight some of the most popular and well know musical scores.
"Everyone in the audience will be familiar with many of the selections we perform," he added. "What better way to present it than with a full orchestra on-hand?"
A cool aspect to Saturday's concert will be film accompaniment for several musical selections.
"We will feature 'South Pacific,' 'Sound of Music,' 'The Producers' and 'Evita' on-screen, as we provide the orchestral accompaniment," Mr. Collins said.
Mr. Collins, whose three favorite musicals are "West Side Story," "Sweeney Todd" and "Chicago," said he is very excited for this weekend's concert.
"Broadway musicals are such a joy and a true American tradition," he said. "Through sheet-music, in the movies, over the radio, on television, in our CD players, on our iPods, on stage in schools, to servicemen and women, grandparents and their grandchildren, the world of the Broadway musical has been brought to every corner of this world. It is one of the great art forms, and I will guarantee, spending your evening with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will be a treat for both young and old."
