BREVARD -- In an effort to continue its mission of caring for thousands of abandoned pets, the Central Brevard Humane Society will host its third annual "Tuxes & Tails" Gala on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Cocoa Civic Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Cost to attend is $75 per person or $150 per couple. There are also V.I.P. packages available.

Dress for the evening will be "black, white and glamorous."

Eileen Cole, media relations manager for the Central Brevard Humane Society, said that the organization began hosting the event on the celebration of the Humane Society's 60th anniversary.

"Tuxes & Tails" serves as a major fundraiser for the organization, and proceeds from the event will be used to continue renovation of the aged facility.

"We will use the funds to update the plumbing system and expand and improve the existing facility," Ms. Cole said.

Honorary hosts Tom and Susie Wasdin will lead guests during a "howling" good time, as guests show up on the Catnip Carpet with their pet-parents.

"Mike and Mindy" of Lite Rock 99.3 FM and Rich Roach will serve as emcees for the event.

"The program will include start performances from the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse Presenters, live and silent auctions, complimentary 'Pawtinis' and 'Barkaritas,' a buffet diner, festive dance music and a special presentation to recognize community leaders, who have significantly contributed to the organization's success," Ms. Cole said.

Some of the items available in the silent auction include a pair of gold and diamond earrings and wine baskets. Live auction items include the "Best of Paws" basket, which is filled with gift certificates from restaurants and other Brevard businesses.

A truly unique organization, the Central Brevard Humane Society is a "no-kill-for-space" shelter that is self-sustaining, meaning that it receives absolutely no support from tax dollars. All funding comes through donations, the four Molly Mutt Thrift Shops, its Merritt Island Adoption Center, fundraisers and other pet-related services.

The Central Brevard Humane Society will host the third annual "Tuxes & Tails" Gala, "Live on the Catnip Carpet," on Saturday, Aug. 23 fro 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cocoa Civic Center.

Tickets are $75 per person or $150 per couple, and V.I.P. packages are still available for purchase.

The Cocoa Civic Center is located at 430 Delannoy Ave., Cocoa.
