Chamber's 26th Annual Business Champion of the Year Awards
The Business Resource Council of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce presents the 26th Annual Business Champion of the Year Awards Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 26 at the Radisson Resort at the Port, 8701 Astronaut Blvd., Cape Canaveral.
The headline event sponsor is Waste Management, Inc. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception. An elegant dinner and the awards program starts at 6:30 p.m.
This event helps recognize the dedication that businesses have to improving the community.
Categories for Business Champion of the Year include: Emerging Business, Non-Profit Industry, Professional Service Industry, Service Industry Champion and Hospitality Industry.

August Wednesday Friendsday to be hosted by Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill
The Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly networking event, Wednesday Friendsday, on Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill, 610 Glen Cheek Drive, Port Canaveral.
This event is held on the first Wednesday of the month at various locations. Admission is $10 for chamber partners. The event is open to the business community to attend.
Wednesday Friendsday is the largest monthly networking event on the Space Coast, bringing in 200-400 people every month. Each month the event is held at a different location. Admission includes hot and cold hors d'oeurves and two complimentary beverages with a cash bar. There will be a 50/50 card draw, sponsored by Club 52 in Melbourne. Raffle tickets are $1 each.

Rib City to expand to Grant-Valkaria
Grant-Valkaria will soon have the state's first Rib City franchise.
According to company president Craig Peden, Rib City's Grant-Valkaria franchise will be located at the new Grant Station and operated by Grant Station, Inc.
Located at 5390 U.S. Highway 1, the site was formerly the Grant Grocer and the town's original post office. Built in 1891, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The antique-themed Grant Station is planned to be an entertainment destination and will also host an ice-cream shop, open-air market and an entertainment barn. It already has a host of water-sport rentals, including paddleboards, canoes and kayaks. Guests can enjoy paddling, camping and hiking on the nearby island or Mullet Creek Preserve. This part of the Indian River Lagoon is a popular eco-destination.
Grant-Valkaria is located south of Melbourne, between Palm Bay and Sebastian. The town was incorporated in 2006 by joining the two previously unincorporated communities of Grant and Valkaria.
The new location will mark Rib City's 17th franchise. Plans call for the 70-seat restaurant to open in late 2014.

Council names best in leadership for 2014
Theresa Clifton, executive director of the Central Brevard Humane Society, has been selected as the 2014 Florida Space Coast Council Manager of the Year.
This award is presented annually during Management Week in America in June, and is designed to publicize the positive impact that leadership, integrity and management skills can have on businesses and the community. Nominations are solicited from organizations in Brevard County.
In the nomination for Ms. Clifton, her employees and colleagues cited her as "a leading force behind the success of the Humane Society."

The Haven Lamb Shoppe expands facility
The Lamb Shoppe has expanded its facility to include the 1,200-square-foot building directly behind the shoppe. The Furniture Cottage is now open for business and able to accept donations of quality furniture and larger home goods.
Shoppers will also notice a new, larger sign along South Patrick Drive. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Donations of infant and children's clothing, toys and accessories, women's clothing, housewares and collectibles, books, art and, now, furniture are appreciated and are tax deductible.
The Lamb Shoppe is also seeking volunteers to help man the store during the summer months. Volunteers sort donations, assist customers and organize inventory.
The Haven Lamb Shoppe was established in 1999 to supplement income to operate The Haven for Children Inc., a Florida licensed residential group home for infants and children, who have been removed from their family due to abuse or neglect.
All monies, less rent and utilities, are donated to support the three residential homes of The Haven.

French aeronautics supplier will create jobs
Florida Gov. Rick Scott has announced the grand opening of Vision Systems new manufacturing facility in Melbourne.
Vision Systems is an aviation and aerospace tier-one supplier for aeronautics.
The project will create 40 jobs with a capital investment of approximately $1.2 million in Brevard County.
This announcement comes after Gov. Scott and Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope met with the CEO of Vision Systems during the TEAM Florida trade and business development mission to the 50th Paris International Air Show last year.
Based in France, Vision Systems is a leading company of first-tier systems supplier for the aeronautics industry.
The company has designed systems for business jets, helicopters, regional and commercial aircrafts for more than 20 years.
Vision Systems will bring engineering and manufacturing jobs, that will produce solutions for solar protection, cabin management and multimedia systems integrating connectivity and wireless audio distribution, as well as composite parts.

Embraer Executive Jets recently celebrated the delivery of the 500th Phenom family jet, a significant achievement only five-and-a-half years after entry into service of the first aircraft.

Victoria Northrup appointed to Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency
The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce has announced that president and CEO Victoria Northrup has been appointed to the Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency.
Ms. Northrup, president of the Palm Bay Chamber since 2009, was appointed by Palm Bay Councilwoman Kristine Isnardi during the May City Council meeting. The six-member board is under the direction of Tim Ford, director for the agency.
Florida Statutes, Chapter 163, Part III, provides for each city and county to create a community redevelopment agency for the purpose of eliminating and preventing the development of slum and blighted areas or for the provision of affordable housing. There are currently 178 CRA's in the state of Florida.

She has lived in Australia and loves to travel, cook, play golf and tennis and spend time with loved ones. Ms. Gilbert is very active in the Space Coast community. She is the Executive Director of Melbourne Main Street, a member of the Melbourne Regional Chamber and a Board member for her church.
Sasha Byers has always been passionate about helping people. Laura Chiesman elected president of Brevard ABWA
Laura Chiesman, Certified Financial Planner at FirstWave Financial in Satellite Beach, has been elected to another term as president of the American Business Women's Association, Oceanside Charter Chapter.
Previously, Ms. Chiesman served as president, vice-president and secretary for the organization and was honored as Oceanside's Top Ten Business Woman Candidate.
The graduate of the University of Central Florida holds a bachelor's degree in Finance and earned her certification in financial planning from UCF's CFP Professional Education certificate program. She is also a member of the Financial Planning Association.
As president of the ABWA Oceanside Chapter, Ms. Chiesman will lead the organization of professional women, presiding over monthly membership meetings, as well as board meetings.
The Chapter's membership has increased 100 percent in the last 18 months, and the group has been recognized nationally for "Best Practices in Group Management" based on ABWA criteria, putting them in the top 15 percent of all leagues.
