ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- For those of us who have been in the area for a while, the St. Lucie Draft House has been the place to go for most any occasion.

Whether it's a birthday dinner, lunch after church, watching a sporting event or enjoying face painting on kid's night, the Draft House is always a top choice.

On a recent lunch time visit to the popular eatery, my guest and I reminisced about family gatherings that have taken place there over the past 20 years.

"This place is a staple in the community," said Tami McHale, General Manager. "We've got families who visit us who have been with us for the entire 20-years. Kids have grown up coming here and there's always a very friendly, fun time when someone visits."

Along with the family-friendly environment, another reason many people visit the Draft House is their amazing food.

My guest and I tried the spinach dip while chatting. The creamy dip is topped with melted cheese and is served with a healthy portion of tortilla chips. The popular menu item is a hit every time.

Another popular item are the chicken wings. We sampled a couple different flavors and decided that we liked the Cattleman's Gold flavor best. The perfectly fried wings can be served either breaded or naked and there are many different sauce choices such as hot raspberry, honey ginger, sweet Thai, chili lime, and different heat levels from mild to El Torcho.

For lunch, my guest tried the chicken finger platter. The meal is served with two sides such as French fries, onion straws, vegetable or mashed potatoes. The meal is a winner and has been my guest's favorite since she was a child.

I tried something new this time around, the blackened chicken Alfredo with garlic bread. The sauce on this dish was absolutely amazing. The meal was served with a side salad and was enough for two to share.

The menu is full of items that will please the pickiest eaters. Whether it's the new Panini's, wraps, burgers, broccoli bites, delicious desserts or any of the daily specials, there's something for everyone.

The St. Lucie Draft House is located at 6630 South U.S. 1 in Port St. Lucie.
