KSC Federal Credit Union announces name change
Kennedy Space Center Federal Credit Union has announced that it has officially changed its name to Launch FCU.
KSC Federal Credit Union was founded in 1963 to serve the financial needs of employees of Kennedy Space Center.
In 1993, the Credit Union merged with Halifax Teachers Credit Union, and membership was expanded to include anyone who lives, works or worships in Brevard or Volusia counties.
In 2013, KSCFCU began exploring a name change to better reflect its membership growth, while keeping its robust history of serving the Space Center, as well as the teachers in Volusia County.
Launch conveys the past, present and future of this credit union. The tagline, "go beyond" invites members and the community to experience a superior level of service and the logo reflects the history of space exploration.
A new website will be coming later in the year.

New marketing director

Supporting the troops
Many National Guard and Reserve members rely on the support of their employers to help balance their military service with their civilian careers.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, has selected DEMACO, of West Melbourne, as one of 30 finalists for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
This award is the department's highest recognition for employers, who support National Guard and Reserve employees.
The top 30 employers were selected from a pool of 2,864 nominations, submitted earlier this year by National Guard and Reserve service members.
The employers, selected as Freedom Award finalists, distinguish themselves by supporting their National Guard and Reserve employees through policies and initiatives that go above and beyond in assisting and encouraging their military service.
DEMACO's nominator, a Marine Corps Reservist, highlighted the company's establishment of "Machines for Peace," a nonprofit company, whose mission is to donate food machines to deployed military units.
DEMACO provides gift certificates and personally calls and visits family members of deployed service members.
The company continues paid time off accrual and generous benefits when service members deploy and requires managers to receive training on service member reintegration policies and issues.
Senior DoD officials, business leaders and prior awardees will now select up to 15 Freedom Award recipients to be honored at the 19th annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award ceremony at the Pentagon in September.

Local company awarded DoD study
The Department of Defense manages more than 300,000 buildings on hundreds of military installations, with an annual energy cost of more than $4 billion.
DoD is reducing its energy costs through its Installation Energy Test Bed initiative.
Advantek Consulting Engineering, Inc., a Melbourne-based firm, was awarded a funded study, demonstrating a low-cost innovative technology that provides significant cost savings by improving energy efficiency in roof- or ground-mounted heating and air conditioning systems used for small buildings of less than 100,000 square feet.
Tens of thousands of these buildings exist on military installations throughout the United States.
Advantek is currently working on demonstrating the companion microprocessor based control technology, called EER Optimizer (http://tinyurl.com/EER-Optimizer), at military bases.

Rib City to expand to Grant-Valkaria
Grant-Valkaria will soon have the state's first Rib City franchise.
According to company president Craig Peden, Rib City's Grant-Valkaria franchise will be located at the new Grant Station and operated by Grant Station, Inc.
Located at 5390 U.S. Highway 1, the site was formerly the Grant Grocer and the town's original post office. Built in 1891, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The antique-themed Grant Station is planned to be an entertainment destination and will also host an ice-cream shop, open-air market and an entertainment barn. It already has a host of water-sport rentals, including paddleboards, canoes and kayaks. Guests can enjoy paddling, camping and hiking on the nearby island or Mullet Creek Preserve. This part of the Indian River Lagoon is a popular eco-destination.
Grant-Valkaria is located south of Melbourne, between Palm Bay and Sebastian. The town was incorporated in 2006 by joining the two previously unincorporated communities of Grant and Valkaria.
The new location will mark Rib City's 17th franchise. Plans call for the 70-seat restaurant to open in late 2014.

Council names best in leadership for 2014
Theresa Clifton, executive director of the Central Brevard Humane Society, has been selected as the 2014 Florida Space Coast Council Manager of the Year.
This award is presented annually during Management Week in America (first week in June), and is designed to publicize the positive impact that leadership, integrity and management skills can have on businesses and the community. Nominations are solicited from organizations in Brevard County.
In the nomination for Ms. Clifton, her employees and colleagues cited her as "a leading force behind the success of the Humane Society."

The Haven Lamb Shoppe expands facility
The Lamb Shoppe has expanded its facility to include the 1,200-square-foot building directly behind the shoppe. The Furniture Cottage is now open for business and able to accept donations of quality furniture and larger home goods.
Shoppers will also notice a new, larger sign along South Patrick Drive. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Donations of infant and children's clothing, toys and accessories, women's clothing, housewares and collectibles, books, art and, now, furniture are appreciated and are tax deductible.
The Lamb Shoppe is also seeking volunteers to help man the store during the summer months. Volunteers sort donations, assist customers and organize inventory.
The Haven Lamb Shoppe was established in 1999 to supplement income to operate The Haven for Children Inc., a Florida licensed residential group home for infants and children, who have been removed from their family due to abuse or neglect.
All monies, less rent and utilities, are donated to support the three residential homes of The Haven.

French aeronautics supplier will create jobs
Florida Gov. Rick Scott has announced the grand opening of Vision Systems new manufacturing facility in Melbourne.
Vision Systems is an aviation and aerospace tier-one supplier for aeronautics.
The project will create 40 jobs with a capital investment of approximately $1.2 million in Brevard County.
This announcement comes after Gov. Scott and Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope met with the CEO of Vision Systems during the TEAM Florida trade and business development mission to the 50th Paris International Air Show last year.
Based in France, Vision Systems is a leading company of first-tier systems supplier for the aeronautics industry.
The company has designed systems for business jets, helicopters, regional and commercial aircrafts for more than 20 years.
Vision Systems will bring engineering and manufacturing jobs, that will produce solutions for solar protection, cabin management and multimedia systems integrating connectivity and wireless audio distribution, as well as composite parts.

Embraer Executive Jets recently celebrated the delivery of the 500th Phenom family jet, a significant achievement only five-and-a-half years after entry into service of the first aircraft.
Winners of various innovation and design awards, the Phenom 100E and the Phenom 300 are best-in-class jets, having redefined the entry-level and light jet segments with the latest generation technology, a new style concept, premium comfort, performance and reliability.
The commemorative aircraft, a Phenom 300, was delivered to Prime Fraction Club, a fractional ownership company that sells, manages, and coordinates the utilization of assets among its members in Brazil.
