For Hometown News

Mainstreet Art and Culture of DeLand, a committee of the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce, is bringing together various international cultures in a weekend festival of live music, entertainment and visual art exhibits, spanning West Volusia County from Barberville to DeBary.

JAMFest is an acronym for June Arts and Multicultural Festival and will be Friday, June 13, through Sunday, June 15.

Most JAMFest activities will be free and all ages are welcome.

At 4 p.m. Friday, the opening events will be on Indiana Avenue in downtown DeLand, featuring a Zumba dance party, a downtown flash mob and a freestyle music competition attended by industry talent scouts awarding a professional recording opportunity.

Saturday, June 14, includes an artistically rich Juneteenth Celebration, featuring food vendors and live performances centered at the African American Museum of Arts in DeLand as well as a special Celebration of Olde Florida with live demonstrations and local foods at the Pioneer Settlement in Barberville.

Saturday night events include an outdoor movie on the lawn at Stetson University. The Enzian Theatre, Orlando, is offering a showing of "Under African Skies," a documentary about Paul Simons' production of his album, "Graceland in Africa." Movie-goers should bring a blanket or chair. There will be free popcorn while it lasts. The film will begin at 8:30 p.m., on the Stetson Green, adjacent to the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave.

On Sunday, June 15, activities will be around Café DaVinci in downtown DeLand, featuring a Global Music & Poetry Festival and awards presentations from Friday night's competition, Bedouin belly dancing and an open drum circle.

The Athens Theatre will also feature the production "Untamed," a live presentation of dance and musical numbers inspired by the Lion King. Area museums will be open for free during the festival weekend with special exhibits to be displayed at area restaurants and public buildings throughout June. Out of town guests will have several special event packages offered by the Clarion Hotel in DeLand.
