Dear 'Get a clue'
The only thing you got right in your article is that you are clueless. The minimum wage has little to do with knowledge or how long an individual has been on a job, it is supposed to reflect a minimum wage to survive in today's economy.
Your attempt to suggest that you and other business owners would have to let workers go or not hire additional workers if the minimum wage were to go up is ridicules. You don't hire people because of what you have to pay them; you hire them because your business needs require more people.
In response to your irrational comments regarding $1,000 per hour vs. 10 cents per hour, there is real life proof of your thinking; China. They pay workers 10 cents an hour and look how well that is working for the masses.
There are thousands and thousands of educated people of all ages in this country who are working at minimum wage jobs (sometimes two or three at a time) just to make ends meet and many more who cannot find even a minimum wage job. So, I suggest you get off your high horse and thank God that you are not in their shoes and show some compassion.
More to 'Get a clue'
It seems to me that clueless does not have a clue on what raising the minimum wage would do. He exaggerates the pay scale at the max of $1000 an hour and the minimum of $0.10. That is not the real world. Will people spend less if they are making more? I think not! Raising the price of drinks and burgers a dime or quarter would not stop people from buying. You can take that to the bank. They spend $3 or $4 dollars on a cup of special coffee and do not blink. These are not the rich who spend that much on special coffee but everyday people.
Now look clueless, if you were making $7.25 an hour and then got an increase to $10.10 an hour would you not be spending more. Duh! I really think you and the majority would. Where does this extra spending go? Yep to businesses everywhere. Mom and pop restaurants would raise their prices too but the consumer making $2.85 more an hour I really think could afford it. Those businesses that seem to be crying the most about raising the minimum wage seem to be those whose profits are in the multiple millions every year. Poor babies!
In regards to the starting pay and increases upon learning more skills I have seen where some stay at just above minimum for years and not because their knowledge of the job has not progressed but the business just does not want to pay that worker what he or she is due. It is called greed and the businesses do not want to part with their almighty dollar.
I say to clueless, see what happens when the minimum wage is raised and then write back not justifying the resulting increase in the economy.
A mouthy Mr. President?
We have elected as president an individual who talks and talks and talks.
He seems infatuated by the sound of his own voice. Someone should tell this man who is so impressed with his own intellect that he should not speak unless he can improve the silence.
A terrifying experience
At 9:30 a.m. this morning my wife and I were out fishing at FPL No. 1. We were drifting along as most of the boats do there. I looked up as a 25- foot, I believe a Mako Dual Engines, Tee Top white vessel, with six or more people on board headed right for our boat. At approximately 200-feet I started getting worried. At 150-feet My Wife and I started screaming at the vessel heading right for us broadside at roughly 10 knots. A passenger on the vessel screamed at the so called captain of the vessel to turn fast. Let me tell you I have never in my life seen prop wash 25 feet from my boat. You know who you are. I don't or I would have reported your numbers.
To all boaters this summer season. I call them weekend warriors.....your GPS Chart Plotter isn't a television screen - pay very closed attention to who is around you at all times.
You probably would have killed us this morning.
Then the so call Captain said, "Oops, I'm sorry" he didn't even bother to stop, like he didn't even care. I can't write here what I screamed at him. Needless to say we headed in back to our Marina. This is the very first time this has happened to me with 25-plus years on the water.
Florida needs to raise the minimum wage!
We are way overdue, as it is time to raise the minimum wage in Florida. Other states have successfully done this.
I specifically call out to big box companies, like Wal-Mart and fast food companies like McDonalds, who can more than afford to pay their employees a living wage.
Instead, they pay the bare minimum that they can get away with and leave taxpayers footing the bill for the food stamps and welfare, since they make so little.
I am not singling out small employers with a handful of employees. I'm specifically referring to the large-chain employers that simply need to keep their pay up with the cost of living. For employees to simply be able to buy groceries to feed their families, pay rent, bare necessities, etc.
If you don't know what a "living wage" is, look it up and educate yourself.
Nearly 2/3 of minimum wage workers are women, many who are raising families alone. Many minimum wage workers are educated and cannot find a job in their field.
If we raise the minimum wage, we help women, families and the economy. Many minimum wage workers are hard-working folks - both liberals and conservatives - paying poverty wages does not discriminate.
Why does it always come down to conservative cheap corporate greed?
Now, let me guess, someone who is completely clueless about poverty wages and the working poor will respond to this rant.
Rules of the road
I think most of the drivers down here forgot the rules of the road.
That white line, you are supposed to stop before it, not all the way after it.
And yield signs? Forget about it. If you don't stop and let them in, they will hit you.
I mean, this is ridiculous. I had them pass me on a double line, just to get one car in front.
I don't what's going on with these guys.
I'm 81 years old. Thank God, I've never had an accident. I travel about five miles over the limit, and when I turned 80, I took a safety driving course, and I gave it to my insurance company.
And my insurance company gave me a letter back.
They said, "Happy birthday. Your insurance went up $200."
I think that they should get after these young guys, who don't obey the rules. They take off with jackrabbit starts, and then they jam on their breaks at the lights.
They didn't get any further than I did.
Bring back the American jobs
Tell all of our senators and representatives to bring back American manufacturing jobs.
We are supporting Japanese, Chinese, Korean and German economies, at the expense of our young people.
Circulate our money amongst our people. Buy American and support our people.
God bless our country.
American voices needed
I am tired, tired, tired of foreign (individuals), broadcasting our American golf tournaments.
I can't see where an Australian accent adds anything to the game.
They get the big bucks, but they don't add anything that an American pro could do.
They are all good; but they are all here, and we don't need them.
How many people feel the same way we do? Let us know.
Gas prices and taxes
I just read that they want to raise all kinds of taxes and gas prices 6 cents a gallon to fix the roads, because they have lax on doing things.
Let's get rid of all these high-prices, who are in there, who are doing nothing, sitting on their duffs ... instead of raising all these taxes.
There is no need for it. Tell Tallahassee, we don't want it.
