The Southeast Museum of Photography at Daytona State College will open two photography exhibits Wednesday, June 11.
"Of One and the Other" an exhibit by professor Jayanti Seiler and "Obsessions, Curiosities and Fancies" by professor M. Laine Wyatt will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at 1200 International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.
Both are Faculty Focus exhibitions, which present photographic works from faculty of the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies, a joint enterprise of the photography programs at Daytona State College, the University of Central Florida (Daytona Campus) and the Southeast Museum of Photography.
In the "Of One and the Other" photographs, Mr. Seiler explores the dichotomous and complex relationships between people and animals, through found and constructed human-animal encounters. They are a call to revere the natural world while living in a modern one in which the two realms often conflict and therefore make honoring the boundaries between humans and wildlife problematic and sometimes damaging.
"Obsessions, Curiosities and Fancies" focuses selectively on five bodies of work, which traverse expansive topics: the nature of women's relationship to clothing, the physiological landscape of grief, uninhabited interior public spaces, a contemporary observation of the fair, and evocations of longing.
The exhibits will run from June 11 to Sept. 21.
