BREVARD -- The month of May seems to be synonymous with women, and one local business is excited to continue the celebration of the female gender with a one-of-a-kind event.

On Friday, May 9, One Senior Place in Viera will host its eighth annual "Women's Day Extravaganza" from noon until 4 p.m.

The event, which is free, will focus on women's health issues.

"Our theme is 'Aging Brilliantly,' offering featured speakers, who will highlight 'brilliant aging' from an emotional, physical and aesthetic point of view," said Kathi Ridner, director of One Senior Place.

Speakers for the women-centered event include author Betsy Horn and Dr. Anita Saluja of Health First.

"Betsy Horn will share her personal experience with cancer and how it changed her life," Ms. Ridner said. "The title of her book is 'A Little Touch of Cancer and How it Made Me Well,' and it will be available for purchase at the event."

Dr. Saluja, who is a dermatologist with Health First, will talk about healthy, beautiful skin, which is something that every woman wants to have, regardless of age.

"And, for fun, we are hosting our first annual hat contest," Ms. Ridner said. "We are asking attendees to wear their favorite hat -- sophisticated, fun, creative or playful -- that best reflects their personality."

A special prize, donated by Cherie Lyn Photography, will be available to the winner of the hat contest.

There will also be an assortment of door prizes, available to attendees of "Women's Day Extravaganza," including gift certificates to local restaurants, spa treatment gift baskets, flowers, wine and a special door prize of a $100 VISA gift card.

Ms. Ridner said that "Women's Day Extravaganza" will offer free spinal screenings, mini massages, virtual makeovers, Satin Hands treatments, essential oil therapy and free readings with a psychic, as well as special "Women's Boutique" displays from Browning's Pharmacy and Medical Supply for women, who have had mastectomies.

"As women, we work hard each day, taking care of the people around us," Ms. Ridner said. "This day represents an opportunity to celebrate us! Join us to learn something you didn't know, relax, laugh and have a wonderful day."

One Senior Place will host "Women's Day Extravaganza" on Friday, May 9 from noon until 4 p.m. at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road, Viera. The event is free.
