Atlantis Bistro combines fresh food with an authentic atmosphere

On the north side of Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach, residents and visitors can find a little taste of Italy at Atlantis Bistro, Wine by the Waves.

The quaint diner offers lunch and dinner and, has a small bar that serves select wines and draft beer.

All menu items are available any time the doors are open, but there are a few special dishes that are not on the menu and available on occasion or on Friday and Saturday evenings only.

Appetizers at the restaurant range from $6 to $10, and include Pizza Bruschetta, Focaccia Verde, Meat Balls Bites, Mozzarella Fresca, Crab Cake Starter, Salad and a Crostini Veggies Sampler.

Atlantis Bistro offers a variety of sandwiches, served with a choice of Panino or Focaccia bread and a side of steamed veggies or roasted Tuscan potatoes. Starting at $8 for the grilled chicken or meat loaf hamburger and ranging to $11 for a blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich, there are several to choose from at great prices.

There are also a variety of side items at Atlantis Bistro from Caesar salad, grilled chicken or shrimp to grilled scallops and steamed veggies, potatoes or vegetable rice.

Most are $4 for an additional side, except the shrimp and scallops, which are $6.

For dinner, Atlantis Bistro offers a variety of pasta, seafood, chicken and meat dishes, ranging from $9 to $18. Diners can get fresh-made fettuccine or spaghettini pasta in five different styles, such as with creamy Alfredo sauce or with sausage, peppers, onions and garlic.

A favorite is the Atlantis Crab Cake dinner, consisting of two large 4-ounce pan-seared lumpy crab cakes, made from blue crab claws and served with rice and Remoulade sauce for $18. Other seafood choices are Mahi Mahi, salmon cartoccio, mussels lemonade, shrimp brandy and a seafood medley.

There are several chicken dinners as well, ranging from $12 to $14. There is chicken romana, chicken Florentine, chicken fresca, chicken parmigiana and chicken al pesto or guests can order osso buco, which is a slowly cooked pork leg shank, served in a wine tomato sauce and vegetables with Polenta.

The rack of lamb and special steak of the week are offered at market price. Another favorite for those seeking healthy alternatives is the grilled eggplant parmigiana, served with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, with a side of steamed veggies or Tuscan potatoes.

There are three fresh made desserts available, the Tiramisu, Italian spumoni ice cream and chocolate brownies a la mode.

Some of the restaurant's other specials that are not listed on the printed menu for Friday and Saturday nights are the Chilean Sea Bass and the Lasagna Crepe, which is a huge portion of a light, fluffy lasagna, with a blend of several different cheeses, in a tomato and meat sauce.

Atlantis Bistro's hours are noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Happy Hour is daily from 4-6:30 p.m., where guests get two-for-one house wine or draft beer.
