BREVARD -- Winter's icy grip has melted, which is a cause for celebration.
Join Swingtime, Melbourne's Big Band, as it presents its annual Spring Fling Dance on Friday, March 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium.
Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 online or at the door.
Tables for parties of eight or more can be reserved by calling the Melbourne Municipal Band at (321) 432-4715. Reservations must be made by Thursday, March 13.
"The Spring Fling Dance has been a tradition with Swingtime for the past 20 years," said Art Martin, conductor. "We find our audience is in the mood, this time of year, for a very up-beat, fun evening of dancing."
Featuring a variety of favorite toe-tapping tunes, as well as vocalists Sally Hart and Len Fallen, the Spring Fling Dance is BYOB, with a concession offering snacks, soft drinks, bottled water and ice for sale.
"Some of the songs we will perform include 'In the Mood,' 'Pennsylvania 6-5,000' and 'Mack the Knife,' as well as many ballads, swing numbers and Latin Tunes," Mr. Martin added.
Attendees of the Spring Fling Dance will also have the opportunity to brush up on their fox trot from 6 to 7 p.m. with Laura Beers from A Dancer's Voice. Dance lessons are $5.
Now that spring has officially sprung, Mr. Martin said that he and the band are looking forward to this year's Spring Fling Dance.
"Our Swingtime musicians thoroughly enjoy entertaining people and watching our patrons dance to live Big Band music, having a great time," he added. "It's an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful sounds of Big Band. People can listen or dance to live music, and you don't have to be a dancer to attend."
