ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- It's that time of year again... Cotton candy and elephant ears, Ferris wheels and giant swings and let's not forget steers, climbing goats, concerts and hypnotists.
All of this, and more, will be making its way to St. Lucie County as the fair takes over Feb. 28- March 9.
"This year is going to be so much fun," said Jeanne Keaton, general manager of the St. Lucie County Fair. "One thing that's new and is quickly become one of my favorites is Goat Mountain. There's a slide and tires and things for them to climb on. You'll be amazed how these creatures can balance and climb. They're so entertaining."
Other favorites will return to the fair, including the exciting midway full of rides. A kid's area for smaller children, beer tents, steer shows, a petting zoo, a livestock area with a vast array of animals, 4-H exhibits and the school building which is full of exhibits from many of the local elementary, middle and high schools.
"We have an amazing tiger show this year," Ms. Keaton said. "What's extra special is that the trainer is only 17 years old. It truly is spectacular."
This year's headlining musical act is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band which will entertain crowds on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is included in gate admission, but reserved seats, which include admission, are only $25.
"Normally we open with a concert; however this year will have the PRCA ProRodeo kicking off the fair."
The rodeo will take place Friday, Feb. 28 and on Saturday, March 1 starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. Bleacher seats at this event are free with gate admission.
Returning this year is the demolition derby on March 8 at 4 p.m. This exciting car-ramming show is fun for the whole family.
