Preparations for Runaway Country Music Festival under way

Wickham Park readies to welcome Keith Urban, Toby Keith, The Band Perry, Charlie Daniels Band

and many more.

BREVARD -- Next month, Melbourne's Wickham Park will host the fourth annual Runaway Country Music Festival.

According to Runaway's executive producer, Gary McCann, "The entire park transforms into a festival paradise. With several lakes, towering palms, spacious campsites and a wide open concert bowl area with great sight lines, we are in for a real treat."

Mr. McCann continued, "Runaway Country, March 21-23 will again bring in the nation's largest mobile stage, combined with two of the largest HD Jumbotron screens. Sitting four stories high and outfitted with Nashville's best audio and light show, we are pulling out all the stops to put on one heck of a show."

The Runaway Country website lists several new attractions for attendees this year; "My Apartment" offers VIP lunch and dinner during the day, then as soon as the main stage closes, it transforms into an after-hours nightclub, with live entertainment.

Thrill-seekers will enjoy the Human Slingshot ride.

Runaway's vice president of Marketing, Doug Baker said, "The slingshot ride is very cool. We saw it at the Country Thunder Festival in Arizona earlier this year. People loved it, so we thought, what the heck, we have lots of crazy people in Florida who would enjoy it, too."

So, where does the transformation all start?

"We start by surveying and marking the entire park; seating, stage location, loading ramps, vendor area, production offices, media center, hospitality, power generators, bars, Sky Suites and campsites," Mr. McCann said. "Everything is meticulously planned out."

"One of our priorities is a new feature this year: Florida's biggest beer garden, with accompanying corn hole courts. It's about the size of a football field. That probably gets marked out first."

Festival production offices are scheduled to arrive next week, then a caravan of trucks will begin the process of delivering the stage from Nashville.

Runaway Country begins Friday, March 21 with The Band Perry and Chris Cagle, and runs all weekend to Sunday evening, with a grand finale by Keith Urban.

Music fans have an option of single-day ticket at $79 or a three-day weekend pass for $129. Just a handful of RV or tent campsites are available. Hotels are within five to 15 minutes of the festival site.
