Free tax assistance available through April 11 at four Martin County library locations

Martin County Library System is offering free tax assistance at four of its library locations from Feb. 3 through April 1. Following is a schedule with locations and times that tax help will be available:

AARP Tax Preparation Schedule:

Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart

Monday-10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Wednesday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Thursday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Friday- 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Saturday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Peter & Julie Cummings Library, 2551 S.W. Matheson Ave. Palm City

Tuesday-10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Thursday -10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Hoke Library, 1150 N.W. Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach

Tuesday-10 a.m. - 2p.m.

Wednesday -10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Thursday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Robert Morgade Library, 5851 S.E. Community Drive, Stuart

Monday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Friday-10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

All tax preparation is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Taxpayers are urged to ensure they have all required forms before arriving, including valid photo identification, social security card and the social security cards of any dependents. AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in cooperation with the IRS and the Martin County Library System.

Tax assistance will not be available at the Blake Library on March 17.

Volunteers needed

The Council on Aging of Martin County is in need of volunteers to pack lunch supplies for Meals on Wheels clients. All work is done at the Kane Center in Stuart, in the Center's commercial kitchen. Hours are flexible, and a variety of time slots are available, Monday through Friday.

Martin County Parks & Recreation Department hosts preschool basketball

The Martin County Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting a preschool basketball program at the tennis courts at Halpatiokee Regional Park, 8303 S.E. Lost River Road in Stuart. This is a developmental, non-league activity. Ages 3, 4 and 5 are welcome. This program is held from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Feb. 12, for six weeks. Cost is $80 for residents and $90 for non-residents.

What is your pet saying?

Dogs and cats have a language all of their own and to help pet owners better enrich their lives and the lives of their pets, the public is invited to attend "What is Your Pet Saying: Dog and Cat Body Language," a presentation by Veterinarian and Board Certified Animal Behaviorist Dr. Lisa Radosta. Sponsored by the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and co-sponsored by the Martin Country Sheriff's Office Animal Services, this free lecture will be held 6 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 20, at the Blake Library 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart.
