MERRITT ISLAND -- Break out your favorite board games and your lucky deck of cards, all for a great cause next weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Brevard Museum Guild will host its annual Patriotic Card and Game Party at the Veteran's Memorial Center on Merritt Island from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The guild is asking for a $15 donation to attend, with funds benefitting the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science.
Tickets are available for purchase at the door or in advance at the museum.
Made up of a group of local men and women, the Brevard Museum Guild was established in 1978 to help support the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science.
From fundraising to docent tours, the guild plays a vital role in the operations of the Brevard Museum.
This will be the 15th year the Brevard Museum Guild has hosted the event.
"The overall theme remains patriotic, to both celebrate the presidential birthdays in February and to honor the veterans of the locale, where the event is held," said Rachel Burris, assistant director and director of education at the Brevard Museum. "This year's bonus theme is floral, which is represented in the boutique, with items for sale including floral décor, clothing, jewelry, plants and more."
Attendees of the Patriotic Card and Game Party are invited to bring their favorite board and card games from home or play the games the group will have at the event.
In addition to the floral-themed boutique, the Patriotic Card and Game Party will also include raffles and door prizes.
"Door prizes donated so far include a gift set from Fantastic Sam's in Cocoa, a gift certificate for lunch for two at Chaparral Mexican Grill in Cocoa, a gift certificate to the Merritt Island Mall and various baskets filled with goodies, such as movies, candy, bottles of wine and more," Mrs. Burris said. "The guild will raffle a large goodie basket, which I can attest always has wonderful items, and a 50/50 raffle to help raise funds."
Mrs. Burris said that the Brevard Museum Guild is currently raising money to help cover the picnic tables at the Brevard Museum.
"With many school children coming to the museum for tours, covering the picnic tables is a must," she added.
Additional funds raised will also go toward the overall well-being of the Brevard Museum.
"The Patriotic Card and Game Party is a fun way to support a local nonprofit museum," Mrs. Burris said. "The party has always been a place where new friends meet, old friends enjoy getting together and everybody enjoys good food, games, door prizes and shopping a bit at the boutique."
The 15th annual Patriotic Card and Game Party, hosted by the Brevard Museum Guild, will be Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Center on Merritt Island.
Cost to attend is $15.
