The Ormond Beach Civil Air Patrol Cadet Color Guard Team competed successfully against eight other teams and won six trophies, including first place overall, at the 2014 Florida Wing Cadet competition recently at Patrick Air Force Base.
The Ormond Beach cadets won first place in the "Mile Run" and "In-Ranks Inspection" categories, second place in the "Indoor Practical Drill" and "Panel Quiz" categories, third place in the "Standard Drill" category, and in the "Overall" category the Ormond Beach team took the first place trophy.
Under the leadership of 2nd Lt. Andrea Giles and Senior Member Kevin DeMarco, the cadets practiced three days a week for the entire month preceding the event in preparation.
The Ormond Beach Composite Squadron Cadet Color Guard Team is Cadet Airman Andrew Weiker, Cadet Master Sergeant Devon Giles, Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Grace Regittko and Cadet Staff Sergeant Corey Spitz. As a result of their victory at the state competition, the Ormond Beach cadets will represent the entire Florida Wing at the 2014 Southeast Region Cadet Competition in April at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala.
