ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County has received a grant from the Children's Services Council of St. County.

The Boys & Girls Clubs will use the funds to support the programs by providing a full range of afterschool programs and summer development activities to include academic success, healthy lifestyles including pregnancy prevention, substance abuse and alcohol prevention and civic engagement.

Additionally the Truancy Project is a prevention and enforcement program targeting all children in selected local elementary schools who have five or more unexcused absences.

The Boys & Girls Clubs programs that Children's Services Council supports serve four locations throughout the county and a diverse group of kids age 6-18. The more than 2,000 youth served through our clubhouses and Truancy Program come from a variety of backgrounds.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County's Core Program focuses on academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. Our Clubhouses, strategically located in neighborhoods where we are needed most in St. Lucie County, provide members with a developmentally rich environment that provide tested youth development programs in the areas of academic success, athletics, career exploration, substance abuse prevention and leadership development.

The goal of the Boys & Girls Clubs Truancy Project is to reduce truancy within St. Lucie County Elementary Schools; increase positive attitudes towards school at an early stage of life in hopes to prevent future truancy issues and other potentially damaging inappropriate behaviors which may lead to a lifetime of problems.

"We enable young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens," said Michael A. Sancho, CEO. "We accomplish this by providing a world-class Club experience, assuring success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with members on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship and living healthy lifestyles. Funding from the Children Services Council provides us with the resources to achieve our priority outcomes and the success of our youth is directly related to their involvement in the community and Boys & Girls Clubs."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing youth with a world class Boys & Girls Club experience, assuring that success is within reach for every young person who walks through our doors, and that every Club member graduates high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship and living healthy lifestyles. The Club enables all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County improves the lives of more than 30,000 children and families in our community each year by supporting and partnering with quality agencies that ensure that every baby is a healthy baby, stop child abuse before it starts, keep kids off the streets, keep them in school, and keep them away from drugs and alcohol.
