ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- The Florida Fire Chiefs Association has named SLCFD Fire Inspector Michael Matthy the Fire Inspector of the Year.
Fire Inspector Matthy was recognized by the FFCA at the Fire-Rescue East Conference earlier this month in Daytona Beach.
Fire Inspector Matthy has been with St. Lucie County Fire District since 1992 and with the SLCFD Fire Prevention Bureau since 2004. He has worked tirelessly, completing over 2,200 inspections last fiscal year. In addition he has done plans review and site plan reviews. He has worked well with businesses to help them to become compliant with fire and life safety building codes.
"Fire Inspector Matthy has been diligent in his efforts to make St. Lucie County a safer place to live, he is so deserving of this recognition," said SLCFD Fire Chief Ron Parrish.
In early January the Treasure Coast Fire Chiefs Association recognized Fire Inspector Matthy by naming him Emergency Service Provider of the Year. In 2005 Fire Inspector Matthy, along with four of his peers, were recognized by the Florida Fire Marshal's and Inspectors Association as Fire Investigator of the Year.
Fire Inspector Matthy has also been active in the Christmas 4 Kids Toy Drive, Big Heart Brigade, and the Smoke Detector installation program. Fire Inspector Matthy, and his wife Joanne, live in Fort Pierce. They have one son, Christopher.
