FORT PIERCE -- From her desk in the lobby of a storage facility in Fort Pierce, Cathy Tomkins can watch every nook and cranny of the massive building that stands behind her.

She can also watch from home.

Ms. Tomkins is the manager of Store 4 Le$$, a building that could likened to Fort Knox. With secured entrances, elevators, exits and lobby, nobody can come in or out of the facility without a passcode.

"I sometimes get calls at home from someone who needs help getting in or out," Ms. Tomkins said. "Although there aren't employees who live on site, there are cameras everywhere and I can view the problem from home and can even access locks from my home computer, although I rarely do."

The building was built to withstand hurricane force winds and the shiny floors, clutter-free hallways and clean lobby make for a secure feeling all around.

"We have a pest control service that makes sure there are no rodents, bugs, roaches or anything hanging out in the facility," Ms. Tompkins said. "Sometimes the occasional bug is unknowingly brought in with items for storage, and we don't want there to be a pest issue, so we have pest control tend to the facility, keeping it pest free."

The facility is three stories high and contains approximately 770 units. There is also outside space where RV's, boats and cars can be parked. All inside units are climate controlled and elevators, dollies and hand trucks are conveniently located in the storage entrances.

The lobby has much-needed items such as moving boxes and packing supplies, including tarps and furniture covers for sale.

"Sometimes people get so caught up in actually moving things into storage that they forget some of the supplies they will need," Ms. Tompkins said. "We want to make sure that all the bases are covered."

The facility is accessible 240hours a day.

Store 4 Le$$ is located at 3252 North U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce.
