STUART -- Soroptimist International of Stuart will be hosting TRUST in Dating: a workshop for teen girls and their parents about teen relations using safe tactics.
"As parents, we teach our children how to eat healthy, drive safely, and the importance of a good education, but often we forget to teach them how to have healthy relationships," said Darcy Flierl, director of Prevention from Tykes & Teens and Soroptimist of Stuart's co-chairwoman for the TRUST program.
"It is our hope that TRUST in Dating will both educate teen girls as to what constitutes a healthy dating relationship and empower parents with the skills they need to teach their daughters how to engage in positive, healthy teen relations."
TRUST in Dating will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Blake Library from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free informative workshop for parents and their teenage daughters will provide tips, tactics, and insight from experts in the field.
Guest speaker, Ginny Luther, will talk to the parents about the female adolescent brain and building girl's awareness about relationship values, while Dr. Agneiska Marshall works directly with the teen girls teaching them healthy dating skills. In addition, women whose lives have been impacted by dating violence will share their stories of survival.
Soroptimist of Stuart works towards a commitment to enhance the lives of others by promoting friendships, providing community service and applying members' skills, talents and resources toward the betterment of women and their families. TRUST is a program of Soroptimist of Stuart that aims to provide opportunities to build healthy relationships among youths in Martin County by using strategies to reduce relationship violence.
Sponsors for this event include Martin County Library System and SafeSpace.
Registration is required and can be completed at www.soroptimistofstuart.org.
