Convocation honors judge's retirement

A Judicial Convocation to celebrate the retirement of Circuit Judge Hubert L. Grimes, the first African-American judge in Volusia County will be Friday, Jan. 31.

Judge Grimes is retiring following a 25-year judicial career in the 7th Judicial Circuit.

The Judicial Convocation is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bethune-Cookman University.

The event, "Retiring the Robe," is organized by the Latimer Hawkins Judicial Council, a group of African-American judges for which Judge Grimes has served as president.

Scheduled speakers include Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince, Chief Judge Belvin Perry Jr. of the 9th Judicial Circuit (Orange-Osceola counties), Chief Judge Terence Perkins of the 7th Judicial Circuit, and Dr. Edison O. Jackson, B-CU president.
