STUART -- Newitt Jewelers isn't your typical jewelry store. In fact, they're the jewelry store that many larger chains refer customers to when they can't fulfill their needs.

Tom Newitt opened Newitt Jewelers 18 years ago, but he's been in the business for much longer than that.

When he was a child, he was always good with his hands, keeping busy with craft projects. He remembers first being intrigued by the business when he lived next door to a family who owned a jewelry store.

After high school he apprenticed with other jewelers to develop his skills and can now call himself a master jeweler with 39-years of experience.

"That's what makes us different from most other places around here," Mr. Newitt said.

It's one of the reasons, anyway. Newitt Jewelers also boasts a master watchmaker on premises and the ability to manufacture and repair jewelry in-house.

Mr. Newitt is often busy making molds and crafting rings, pendants and bracelets in the back room, including for a line of high-end nautical jewelry designed by Peter Costello.

Newitt Jewelers carries pre-owned Rolex watches, a wide selection of bridal jewelry, and a handpicked selection of jewelry that shoppers won't find at other stores.

"We have a unique collection of pieces," said Connie Clough, salesperson at Newitt Jewelers.

"We try to get stuff that's completely different," Mr. Newitt said.

One of their most recent items, exclusive to Newitt Jewelers, are destination bracelets for Stuart and the Treasure Coast. Stuart's bracelet features a sailfish and the Treasure Coast's features a gold doubloon and anchor.

A portion of the sale from each bracelet is donated to the Indian River Keeper to fight for the well-being of local waterways. They have already contributed $2,500 to the organization through bracelet sales.

So whether browsing for a new pair of earrings, searching for the perfect engagement ring, or just looking to show some hometown pride, Newitt Jewelers offers an eclectic selection of items at a wide range of price points and a truly friendly staff to help their customers find exactly what they're looking for.

Newitt Jewelers is located at 2436 N.W. Federal Highway in Stuart and can be found online at www.newittjewelers.com. Drop in or call (772) 692-1312 on Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
