INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- If you or a loved one has ever experienced a senior moment, you aren't alone. Like many people, you may have questioned whether it was a temporary memory lapse or the sign of something more serious. Now there is an opportunity to experience a different kind of "Senior Moments" - a stage play by David Middleman - that will entertain as well as serve as a forum to answer questions.

To raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and its treatment, the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County (APA) is proud to sponsor the February stage production of "Senior Moments." The play is a comedy-drama commissioned by the Indian River Medical Center and also sponsored by the American Association of University Women.

"We are thrilled to see the complicated topics of memory loss and Alzheimer's disease presented through this thought provoking and witty story," said APA Executive Director Peggy Cunningham. "We expect audiences will enjoy a few laughs but also walk away with a greater understanding of Alzheimer's disease and how it is treated."

"Senior Moments" shines a spotlight on the life of fictitious Dr. Liz Sanders. Dr. Sanders drafts a young and unsuspecting Dr. Jason Frick into the unpredictable world of her patients, whose escapades are frequently humorous, often vexing and sometimes even dangerous. As Dr. Sanders begins experiencing senior moments herself, the story becomes even more intriguing.

"Senior Moments" will be performed at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild on Saturday, Feb, 1 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. Light refreshments and a panel discussion, moderated by the IRMC's Dennis Saver, M.D. and the IRMC Ethics Committee, will follow each performance. General admission tickets are $10 when purchased with cash or check at one of the following Vero Beach locations: Alzheimer and Parkinson Association of Indian River County, 2300 5th Ave.; Cultural Council, 20141 14th Ave.; and Vero Beach Theatre Guild box office, 2020 San Juan Ave. Tickets may also be purchased with a credit card for $11 online by visiting www.AAUWVeroBeach.org and selecting "Events and Fundraisers."
