TREASURE COAST -- BankUnited, one of the most well capitalized financial institutions in the country, awarded the non-profit Solar & Energy Loan Fund a $5,000 donation to help the organization expand its services throughout the Treasure Coast region.

SELF is a certified Community Development Financial Institution focused on helping local property owners achieve energy efficiency and renewable energy alternatives.

SELF helps homeowners identify cost-effective clean energy solutions and then provides favorable financing to enable them to make recommended home energy improvements.

To date, SELF has performed 857 energy audits and assisted with 246 loans, totaling $2.16 million of home energy improvements.

SELF clients are reducing their energy consumption by an average of 23 percent per household, enhancing their comfort and livability (particularly important for the elderly, children and persons with disabilities), and increasing the market value of their homes. The work generated through the SELF program is also stimulating local green jobs in the hardest hit job sector in Florida (i.e., the construction industry) and creating economic development activity in geographic areas hard hit by the recession and housing market collapse.

If you are interested in learning more about SELF, visit www.solarenergyloanfund.org or call (772) 468-1818.
