Orange City will kick off its inaugural Mayor's Fitness Challenge at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, 1055 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City.
The kickoff event will include a welcome from hospital internal medicine physician Malika George as well as a walk around the hospital campus, gift drawings, music and healthy refreshments.
The 10-week challenge is designed to motivate participants to improve their overall wellness. Participants will receive baseline lab work and biometric screenings, courtesy of the hospital. At the end of the challenge, participants will have their measurements retaken to determine the percentage of body weight lost.
For $25, participants can join the challenge and receive access to the Four Townes YMCA for four days a week and weekly fitness activities provided by Fit Club. They will also receive discounts and free classes to other local gyms and fitness centers as well as helpful tools, such as pedometers.
The top three participants that lose the greatest percentage of body weight will receive cash prizes: first place receives $750, second place receives $500 and third place receives $250.
Anyone who lives or works in Orange City is eligible to participate.
