Daytona Beach

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration for Florida events began with an annual banquet Thursday.

Other events include a citywide picnic 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (corner of Nova Road and George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach

There will be a free breakfast at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, 580 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach, followed by a March for Justice at 9 a.m. The march begins at Allen Chapel and ends at Greater Friendship Baptist Church 539 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach.

A worship service honoring Dr. King will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, with keynote speaker Dr. H. B. Charles Jr., Pastor of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville. The worship service will be held at Greater Friendship Baptist Church.

DeLand

The Stetson University Martin Luther King Day celebration will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Edmunds Center,

Open to the public, it includes breakfast, guest speakers and is followed by a community service event for students.

Deltona

The Deltona DreamKeepers will host a Martin Luther King Weekend Celebration beginning with a breakfast at 9 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at New Hope Baptist Church, 2855 Lake Helen-Osteen Road. The breakfast will feature entertainment along with an inspirational speech by Joshua Williams entitled, "Homeless to Bethune-Cookman University graduate."

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance by calling Mike Williams, (386) 804-6136. Also during the breakfast, prizes will be awarded to the student finalists that participated in the King Celebration Contest.

There will be a Gospel Program at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, at Deltona Alliance Church, 921 Deltona Blvd. Followed by a candlelight vigil. For information on how to get involved in the Gospel Program, call Pastor William Bradley Jr. of New Hope Baptist Church at (386) 532-8291.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Dreaming of a Better America for Everyone."

Ormond Beach

The City of Ormond Beach will have its annual MLK breakfast program celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the South Ormond Neighborhood Recreation Center, 176 Division Ave.
