BREVARD -- For 25 years, one dance group of dedicated teenagers has made the holiday season for those living at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities a little brighter.

"It's hectic, heartwarming, exciting and rewarding for the very dedicated dancers," said Carol Mauter, assistant secretary volunteer for Brevard's Best Dancers. "The dancers make a connection with a special population, giving to their community through their entertainment, delivered door-to-door to healthcare facilities."

Under the direction of Janet Steiner, Brevard's Best Dancers has increased and expanded its number of holiday community service performances on weekends, between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Ms. Mauter said that the dancers, ages 9-15, volunteer to give up their holiday activities every year to practice and perform as many as three performances a day on weekends at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

This year, the group announced that it will be adding Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando to its schedule.

To join, Ms. Mauter said that a dancer must be committed.

"After accomplishing basic dance, a student may audition with (Ms.) Steiner, to receive a higher level of classes," she said. "(They must also) make a commitment to a heavy holiday-dance performance schedule."

This year, the group's first performance will be Saturday, Dec. 7.

Performances will conclude on Dec. 22.

For more information, or to join the dance group, contact Carol Mauter at (321) 777-3833.
