BREVARD -- The Cape Canaveral Leisure Services Department encourages the public to attend a celebration of lights and entertainment.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, "Light Up Cape Canaveral" will take place at Xeriscape Park from 6-8 p.m.
"We encourage the public to attend because we organize events that reflect our local culture and bring the community together," said Monique Scarpa, recreation leader for the city of Cape Canaveral. "This will be a fun, intimate event. There is a yearly tradition of tree lighting, and we are continuing it, but evolving it into a memorable event for years to come."
This free event will include refreshments, crafts and a special visit from Santa Claus.
Ms. Scarpa said she hopes to see this event become an annual celebration for Cape Canaveral.
"This is a new event for the city, so we will be starting light - no pun intended," she said. "Two oak trees will be lit, the small bridge in the park will be lit and there will be three lighted trees and some lighted foliage. Each year, we will add lights to the park until it is fully lit."
The Cape View Elementary School Choir and the Cocoa Beach High School Choir will also perform during the event.
"Light Up Cape Canaveral" will take place at Xeriscape Park on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6-8 p.m.
