BREVARD -- Get into the holiday spirit this Sunday with the Community Band of Brevard, as it hosts "The Nutcracker & More" on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Merritt Island High School Auditorium at 3 p.m.
"We perform a winter concert each year that celebrates the holiday season, selecting festive music that our audience enjoys," said Mike Freeman, publicist for the band. "I believe we've been performing these concerts since the band's formation in 1985."
With the feature selection of the performance being eight of the most popular numbers from Tchaikovsky's famous ballet, "The Nutcracker & More" will also have many holiday favorites for all to enjoy.
When asked what some of the band's favorite holiday pieces to perform, Mr. Freeman said that so many come to mind.
"Two favorites in this concert, both by Leroy Anderson, are 'Bugler's Holiday' and 'A Christmas Festival,'" he added. "Other more moving selections that highlight the band's full, rich sound are 'Greensleeves,' 'Emmanuel Variants' and 'Alleluia! Laudemus Te.'"
Excited for what promises to be a great way to start the holiday season, Community Band of Brevard conductor Marion Scott suggests arriving early for the concert.
"Nothing says it's Christmastime like music from 'The Nutcracker,'" Mr. Scott said in a press release. "Our holiday concert is filled with everybody's favorites, and we expect a full house for the Sunday afternoon performance."
Mr. Freeman mirrors Mr. Scott's excitement for Sunday's show.
"Our free concerts allow audiences to experience a variety of quality, live music," he said. "This concert is no exception in this regard. The familiar music will bring back memories of past holidays, while the moving, rich and powerful sounds will energize and bring a happy smile to all."
The Community Band of Brevard will host "The Nutcracker & More" on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. at Merritt Island High School Auditorium.
The concert is free, with no ticket required and no reserve seating.
