MELBOURNE -- Put on those dancing shoes, and make your way out to the Melbourne Auditorium, as Swingtime presents its annual Holiday Ball Dance on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.

"We've been sponsoring the Holiday Ball for more than 20 years," said Art Martin, conductor. "This is one of our most popular events of the year."

Mr. Martin said that people will sometimes reserve a table for six or more, and make the Holiday Ball the venue for hosting family and friends. There is no cost to reserve a table, and those interested in doing so just need to call ahead.

Swingtime's Holiday Ball Dance will showcase a variety of everyone's favorite toe-tapping tunes, as well as holiday classics.

"We'll play lots of our patrons standard and holiday favorites," Mr. Martin said, "'In the Mood,' 'Satin Doll,' 'L'l Darlin',' Latin sounds, holiday tunes, ballads and swing numbers."

Swingtime will also be joined by popular local vocalists Sally Hart and Len Fallen.

In addition to a night of great entertainment and dancing, the Holiday Ball is B.Y.O.B., with the band auxiliary selling snacks, soft drinks, bottled water and ice at a concession table.

Between 6 and 7 p.m., Laura Beers will offer dance lessons to those looking to brush up on their dance skills. The fee for lessons is $5, and is payable to the instructor.

Friday's event is just the tip of the iceberg of Swingtime this holiday season. The 20-piece Big Band ensemble will host a New Year's Eve Gala at the Holiday Inn in Viera, complete with hors d'oeuvres, a sit-down dinner and dancing until 1 a.m. Tickets for the gala are $100 per person until Nov. 30 and $110 per person beginning Dec. 1.

"The Holiday Ball has become one of the major social events in the month of December in Brevard County," Mr. Martin said. "It's a great place to meet people and to have fun dancing to a 20-piece live Big Band."

Swingtime will host its annual Holiday Ball on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium.

Dance tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tables can be reserved in advance for six or more people by calling MMB Auxiliary President Marci Hutson at (321) 432-4715.

The Melbourne Auditorium is located at 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne.

For more information about these events, or to purchase tickets, call (321) 724-0555 or visit www.melbournemunicipalband.org.
