Advent Lutheran Church to host guest organists in performances

SUNTREE -- The new 36-rank pipe organ at Advent Lutheran Church will get quite the workout throughout December, as the church hosts a series of "mini-concerts," filled with Christmas music.

Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4, Advent Lutheran Church will host three pipe organ concerts, featuring guest organists from Central Florida. The concerts are free to the public and begin at noon.

"The December pipe organ mini-concerts are designed to provide some holiday entertainment in a shorter and more casual format than the concerts in Advent's regular concert series," said Betty Jo Couch, organist at Advent Lutheran Church. "The free concerts will be 40-45 minutes long, and are at a time convenient for workers on their lunch hours, shoppers ready for a break or anyone else who just wants to enjoy some good live music."

Ms. Couch added that audience members are welcome to come and go, as their schedule permits.

Each concert will be performed by a different organist from the Central Florida area.

"A variety of musicians will bring their personalities and unique musical experiences to their performances," Ms. Couch said.

Tom Ingui, a Vero Beach resident, will be the first organist featured in the mini-concert series.

"Tom Ingui is a college student, majoring in organ performance," Ms. Couch said about Dec. 4's performer.

A student at Stetson University, Mr. Ingui is studying under Dr. Boyd Jones, who recently performed at Advent Lutheran Church. Mr. Ingui is also the organist at Faith Lutheran Church in Deland.

"Each organist will play Advent music, Christmas carols and other pieces on the church's A.E. Schlueter pipe organ by composers such as Bach, Handel and Pachelbel."

The new organ, which was installed in January 2012, continues to gain a reputation for musical beauty throughout the Central Florida area.

"Everyone at Advent Lutheran Church in Suntree is happy to share the spirit of Christmas in these free December concerts," Ms. Couch said in a press release.

Advent Lutheran Church will host the first of its three pipe organ mini concerts on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at noon. The concerts are free to the public, with no tickets required.
