BREVARD -- In preparation of the Christmas holiday, several local organizations will play a one-of-a-kind role next month in helping to promote the holiday spirit.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, more than 49 Christian churches and ministries are inviting the community to "The Bible on Parade," a unique event, unlike any other in the United States.

"This is a 2-mile celebration of the birth of Christ," said Janna Hogan, pastor at Jesus is the Key in Melbourne. "It's proclaiming that Jesus is the reason for the season, and putting Christ back in Christmas, and not being afraid to say it."

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, where it will take a 2-mile lap and display 66 books of the Bible, with people in Biblical costumes.

Since 1990, Ms. Hogan said that the parade has become a historic event for the city of Melbourne.

"This is a vision that God gave to me," she said. "It's faith on parade. We invite the community to come, at no cost to them."

The parade will make a complete loop and its route will pass through several senior living facilities and nursing homes.

The parade will pause to greet, pray and give a "Bible Bear" to each resident in attendance at various stops, including Hibiscus Court, Catalina Gardens Associate Brookshire and Avante.

The parade will then head down Bulldog Boulevard, toward the Heart Center at Holmes Regional Medical Center, where it will then turn onto Pineapple Avenue, pass the Melbourne Cancer Care Center and then head back to the auditorium.

Ms. Hogan said that the parade will be followed by a celebration at the Melbourne Auditorium that will feature free hot dogs, cake and drinks.

Live music and entertaining presentations will also follow the parade, and every child will receive a Christmas gift at the celebration.

"The Bible on Parade" will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, located 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne. All are welcome to watch and support.
