VIERA -- Did you know that Brevard is home to the only privately owned assisted living facility on VA property in the nation?

Viera Manor, an 86-unit assisted living facility in Viera, is home to veterans and private citizens alike.

"We are privately owned, and had to go through the United States Congress in order to be built," said James Brassard, director of marketing. "Viera Manor gives veterans, their spouses and widows priority placement, as well as preferred pricing."

An Army veteran himself, Mr. Brassard said Viera Manor can provide care for seniors, who are very independent, to seniors, who require a great deal of care, such as insulin, incontinence management, medication management, oxygen and much more.

"Viera Manor holds a LNS, or Limited Nursing License, which allows us to provide our residents with so many services," Mr. Brassard added.

Since its opening this summer, Viera Manor is exceptionally designed to meet the needs of its residents. From its gorgeous units -- including studios, one- and two-bedroom suites -- to a myriad of planned activities, Viera Manor provides residents and their families with peace of mind.

"We've had salsa and hula dancers come for shows. We also take our residents out to lunch--the guys like to go to Long Doggers and the ladies like Blueberry Muffin," Mr. Brassard said. "We also have rented a box at Space Coast Stadium for a game."

Mr. Brassard added that the events Viera Manor plans for its residents are based on what they request.

When seniors and their families decide that an assisted living facility is an option, Viera Manor can move seniors in within 72 hours.

"Seniors come in and meet with myself or another staff member, and tour the residence to make sure that Viera Manor is a good fit. They also pick their suite," Mr. Brassard said. "Once that is done, the future resident will have their primary care physician fill out a form; however, we can assist in this process."

After the physician provides Viera Manor with this information, seniors can move in. Mr. Brassard added that, in some cases, seniors can move into the facility the same day as their tour.

"Because of our relationship with the VA, we have committed to an 80 percent veteran population," Mr. Brassard said. "Currently, we are operating at a 94 percent veteran population."

Viera Manor's commitment to its veteran residents is huge, Mr. Brassard said.

"We can provide veterans the opportunity to be with other veterans," he added.

Priding itself in providing exceptional care, Viera Manor offers seniors a fulfilling and active lifestyle.

"We provide outstanding care for our residents, and all of our families are very happy with the services we provide," Mr. Brassard said.

Viera Manor Assisted Living Residence is located at 3325 Breslay Drive, Melbourne.
