Handmade lap blankets to be donated for the holidays

Generous and talented citizens of Volusia and Flagler counties have been busy sewing and crocheting lap blankets for Haven Hospice patients.
"People from Edgewater to Palm Coast and Daytona Beach to Bunnell have responded to the request for donations of handmade lap blankets," said Haven Hospice Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator Terri Perry. "We're hoping to get close to 200 blankets to give to Haven Hospice patients during the holidays."
One of several groups making lap blankets comes from Seaside Sewing and Quilts, 403 Mary Ave., New Smyrna Beach.
"We're pleased to participate in this worthwhile project," said Seaside Sewing and Quilts Owner Jeannette Carter. "It's great to know that doing something we enjoy, sewing and quilting, can bring a spark of joy to a hospice patient's life."
There's still time for anyone interested in making lap blankets for Haven Hospice patients. Maximum size is limited at 40 inches by 50 inches and blankets can be sewn, crocheted, knitted or quilted.
Patients who are veterans would appreciate patriotic-themed blankets. The project ends Dec. 15.
