Thirteen years ago, fine Japanese and Thai cuisine came to Vero Beach.

Sake Japanese and Thai Restaurant, on Royal Palm Pointe, quickly became one of the go-to places for Sushi and authentic cuisine.

Opened by Peter and April Song, the restaurant has expanded and now boasts two additional locations, one in downtown Vero Beach and their newest venture, Tradition Square in Port St. Lucie.

The downtown Vero Beach location, Kata by Sake, will soon be known as Sake in downtown.

The restaurant has already gained a reputation for incredible sushi delights.

The restaurant staff is knowledgeable and quick to offer their recommendations for the night.

Will Tseng, a restaurant consultant in the area, helps the Songs with their locations.

"We focus on bringing people good food and good service at a good price," Mr. Tseng said.

"Whatever you get at Sake, Kata or Sake Too, will be the same that you get at each restaurant. There is consistency."

There are items at each location that make each one a gem.

Specialized rolls and dishes can be unique to each restaurant, but the same high quality is consistent throughout the three.

"Even though we are consistent with our base menu," Mr. Tseng said. "We allow the head chefs to make their own signature rolls and dishes."

Kata in downtown has the addition of a lounge and a full wine and liquor bar.

The growth of the restaurant started when the Songs felt the area was missing the delicacies that they had to offer.

For those who are wary about eating sushi, the restaurant staff delights in teaching and explaining the new dishes.

"We get to educate them on sushi and the rolls and that not everything has to be raw," Mr. Tseng said. "Sometimes when people say sushi they say 'no, we don't do raw fish!' I really like seeing them expand their horizon. We have customers that come in and try the California Roll and then try more and go to the Sashimi (raw fish only), and graduate them to different levels."

One dish, the mango duck, is a favorite of many and is a non-sushi dish.

The duck was a generous amount, covered with perfectly seasoned and tender onions, carrots and other vegetables.

The mango sauce was the best part of the dish though, complimenting each item on the plate, including the artfully crafted pineapples.

The Kata by Sake location has many other amenities, including a party room that can host parties and meetings.

The lounge is a particular treat, relaxing back in leather couches and enjoying sushi and meals at the coffee tables.

"We have lots of people who come in and drink martinis, eat sushi and shoot the breeze," Mr. Tseng said.

On Saturday night there is Kamikaze Karaoke at Kata by Sake.
