Food trucks invading downtown Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE -- That's right! Gourmet food trucks are making their way to downtown Fort Pierce, bringing delicacies to the riverfront area for all to enjoy.

Whether you're in the mood for a specialty cupcake or a gourmet taco, chances are you will be able to satisfy your craving on Friday evening.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Academy will host the event from 6-10 p.m. along the picturesque Indian River.

"We are so excited to bring this event to Fort Pierce," said Dawn Doyle, president of the Parent Teacher Organization of St. Andrew's. "We couldn't believe that the food trucks hadn't made their way here yet, so we worked really hard to make it happen."

This event is likened to a massive outdoor picnic where a plethora of different food trucks prepare food that is cooked to order. The trucks are run by chefs who make the gourmet cuisine in front of customers. There is a great deal of fusion cuisine, comfort foods and desserts to choose from.

Patrons should prepare for some long lines, but they are worth the wait.

"We have studied other Food Truck events to try and prepare for this one," Ms. Doyle said. "We are hoping to have everything run smoothly. This is our first time and we're getting our feet wet, but we're anxious to get this event off the ground. It's going to be great for the downtown area, for Fort Pierce and for the community."

The whole family is welcome and encouraged to attend since this is a family friendly atmosphere and everyone is invited.

There will be a cash bar available, too.
