Local ad executive to serve on board

Local advertising executive, Jackie Barker, owner and president of SKY Advertising, located in Satellite Beach, was elected to serve as eastern region chairwoman on the executive committee of the 2013-14 national American Advertising Federation Board of Directors.

Members of the executive committee are comprised of major industry representatives from Coca-Cola, ABC, CNN, AOL, Leo Burnett Advertising, BBDO Worldwide, Ogilvy and Mather Advertising and others.

Ms. Barker was elected by AAF clubs in the eastern geographic region to hold the position of eastern region chair. She will be the voice of advertising professionals from Maine to Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

Life Care Center of Melbourne named company's Southeast Facility of the Year

On Monday, Sept. 23, Life Care Centers of America presented Life Care Center of Melbourne with the Facility of the Year Award for its Southeast Division.

The award was given during the company's annual management meeting at its headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn. It recognizes the facility as the premier location in the division, which includes 29 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Florida and Texas.

Criteria for this award include excellent customer service, a strong activities department, an active volunteer program and involvement in the community.

Life Care Center of Melbourne, led by executive director Aaron Preston, has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The score takes into consideration results of health inspections, staffing and quality measures.

Children's Hunger Project receives check from fundraiser

Barbara Belanger, president of Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators, presented a check for $2,200 to Robert Barnes, co-founder and executive director of The Children's Hunger Project.

The check represented monies earned from the society's annual fund-raising event.

Thirty members of the organization attended the meeting where they met Ms. Sarah Anthony, a member of the Project's Community Advisory Board, and Mr. Barnes who spoke about the needs of hungry children in Brevard County schools.

Embraer Defense & Security acquires remaining 50 percent of Atech's shares

Embraer Defense & Security signed a contract to acquire the remaining 50 percent of Atech Neg-cios em Tecnologia S.A. shares, as part of its acquisition strategy. Since the Company had already acquired 50 percent of Atech, in April 2011, it now becomes the only shareholder of Atech.

The conclusion of the deal is subject to meeting certain conditions that are common to this type of transaction. The deal is an important step in consolidating Embraer Defense & Security as a Strategic Defense Company and a provider of genuinely Brazilian integrated solutions.

Atech is a developer of strategic command, control and intelligence solutions, and provides expert consulting services, as well as technical and logistical support.
