Zumba class offered

A Zumba fitness class meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at Hopkins Hall, 192 Connecticut Ave., Lake Helen.

Shuffleboard scheduled

Shuffleboard will be played from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Blake Park, 493 S. Lakeview Drive, Lake Helen.

Goal shooting contest slated

The Port Orange Elks Lodge No. 2723 is sponsoring a "Soccer Shoot" goal shooting contest at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the soccer field at Port Orange City Center.

There will be four brackets each for boys and girls (based on their age as of Aug. 1, 2013): ages 7 and younger, ages 8 and 9, ages 10 and 11 and ages 12 and 13.

To participate, register by Oct. 5 at the Port Orange Gym/Rec Center or at the Elks Booth in the City Center on Family Days.

Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate when registering.

Everyone is invited after the competition for lunch and the Award Ceremony located at the Port Orange Elks Lodge located at Ridgewood Avenue and Commonwealth Boulevard. Winners will advance to the district finals.

Smith wins title at PTR International Wheelchair Tennis Championships

Auburn Smith of Port Orange won the Women's A Singles title at the PTR Wheelchair Championships Sept. 12-15 at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center and Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The event features many of the world's top wheelchair players and is part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, and sanctioned by the U.S. Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation.

The unseeded Ms. Smith in the Women's A Singles final defeated No. 1 seed Signe Dietrichson of Brentwood, Tenn., 6-4, 6-0.

She collected $75 in prize money.
