CAPE CANAVERAL -- An organization is turning up the heat for charity, as a local businessman will be roasted and toasted next month.

On Oct. 11, The Friends for the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard will host the "Toast and Roast" of Jim Barfield, president and CEO of Luke and Associates, at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral.

All funding raised from the event will aid The Children's Advocacy Center or Brevard, a program of the Space Coast Health Foundation that is a multi-agency collaboration of child welfare professionals, who intervene in the most severe cases of child abuse and neglect in Brevard County.

Delores Spearman, vice president of fundraising for the Friends of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard, said that the event should be a great time for everyone in attendance.

"I encourage everyone to come (to the event)," she said. "It will be a fun evening for a great cause."

Roasters and toasters will receive five to 10 minutes to either pay tribute to Mr. Barfield by toasting him, or roast him by playfully making jokes about him, Ms. Spearman said.

Luke and Associates of Rockledge, which Mr. Barfield co-founded in 2004, provides services for the U.S. Government and commercial entities, such as direct care medical and clinical support services for the U.S. Military and other agency facilities.

Mr. Barfield is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and earned a bachelor's degree in Environmental Health. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of South Florida.

In 2010, Mr. Barfield was named the Space Coast Business Leader of the Year by Space Coast Business Magazine. He is also a supporter of a wide range of local nonprofit organizations.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature a variety of food stations.

At 7:30 p.m., the "Toast and Roast" will begin.

Individual reservations cost $150 and couples are $250.

All checks must be made payable to Friends of the CACB and mailed to 1133 Seminole Drive, Rockledge, FL, 32955.

The Friends of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization that supports the work of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard.

For more information, or to be an event sponsor, call Delores Spearman at (321) 537-3378.
