BREVARD -- In an effort to provide affordable healthcare to uninsured or underinsured Brevard County residents, Brevard's only federally qualified health center will open a new location this October.

Brevard Health Alliance, Inc. will open the doors of its Sarno location on Tuesday, Oct. 1. This will be the organization's sixth location in Brevard County.

"Brevard Health Alliance has been in operation since 2005, serving the community of Brevard County, by providing more than 358,000 medical and dental encounters," said Maegen Pearce, project manager for the organization. "Our target population includes the uninsured, disabled, homeless, underinsured, children, working poor and others with access barriers to care in Brevard County."

Ms. Pearce said that the nonprofit offers uninsured patients discounted fee services, in which the fees are based on the patient's income and family size.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Brevard Health Alliance hosted a ribbon-cutting event for the new Sarno Regional Health Complex, which will be the largest complex for the organization.

"It is 35,000 square feet in total," Ms. Pearce said. "During year one at Sarno, we anticipate providing care to approximately 11,000 patients through 30,000 medical and dental visits."

Ms. Pearce added that, at full capacity, the Sarno Regional Health Complex will provide care to approximately 20,000 patients through 60,000 medical and dental visits.

Brevard Health Alliance currently operates five fixed sites -- in Melbourne, Titusville, Rockledge, Palm Bay and Malabar -- as well as one mobile medical unit and one mobile dental unit. Each site is strategically located throughout the county to assist in decreasing transportation and geographic barriers.

"The new Sarno location will provide pediatric primary care, adult primary care, dental, behavioral health, a medication assistance program, case management and educational services," Ms. Pearce said of the new location's function.

Brevard Health Alliance, Inc. will open its Sarno Regional Health Complex to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Sarno Regional Health Complex is located at 2120 Sarno Road, Melbourne.
