For Hometown News

JENSEN BEACH -It's the first 5k of its kind in Martin County, and it's already gone to the dogs.

At 7:30 a.m. Sept. 14, Treasured Lands Foundation and The Pegasus Foundation will host the Dog Days of Summer Dash at Indian Riverside Park.

Runners and walkers are invited to bring their best friends along for the ride. All dogs are allowed (except fighters and biters).

Funds raised will benefit The Pegasus Foundation's spay/neuter program and Treasured Lands Foundation's land preservation and environmental education program.

Cost to run is $30. There's also a free 1K for children 12 and younger to encourage more outdoor activity and healthy habits in young people.

Working with community partnerships, Treasured Lands preserves Martin County's natural resources and wildlife habitats and encourages young people to engage in outdoor recreation through interactive environmental educational outreaches.

The Pegasus Foundation is a worldwide organization that conducts educational, philanthropic and advocacy efforts to further the cause of animal welfare.

To sign up for the dash, visit Active.com and type in "Dog Days of Summer Dash" http://beta.active.com/jensen-beach-fl/running/dog-days-of-summer-dash-2013 or visit "Treasured Lands Foundation" or "The Pegasus Foundation" on Facebook.
