BREVARD -- Residents with both two legs and four are invited to one of the Central Brevard Humane Society's biggest fundraisers next weekend.

"Paws at the Pier" will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cocoa Beach Pier. The Central Brevard Humane Society has proudly hosted the family-friendly event for the past 12 years.

"This event is everyone's favorite, interactive, pet-friendly fundraiser that includes the whole family and their close, 'furry' friends," said Eileen Cole, media relations manager.

Ms. Cole said that some of this year's activities include live entertainment by Nowhere to Rum, door prizes, a pet psychic, food, silent auction and a vendor village.

Vendors include pet items and services, jewelry and much more.

"We will also hold a best contest, with categories including 'Best Dressed,' 'Best Pet Trick,' 'Pet/Companion Look-a-Like' and the crowning of 'MoonDawgie' and 'Shelia' of the Pier," Ms. Cole added.

All animals must have county tags, proof of current shots and be on a leash or in a carrier for entry to "Paws at the Pier."

In addition to all of the fabulous activities at this year's "Paws at the Pier" event, the Central Brevard Humane Society will also host its first "Paws in the Sand" dog walk. The 3K event takes place at the pier prior to "Paws at the Pier,' with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the walk at 8 a.m.

Cost to participate in the inaugural "Paws in the Sand" dog walk 3K is $10 per person and $5 per dog. Ms. Cole added that those interested in participating in "Paws in the Sand" do not have to have a furry friend to get their feet in the sand.

"The Central Brevard Humane Society came up with 'Paws in the Sand' as a way for people to enjoy a morning walk along the being with their furry friends," Ms. Cole said. "All while helping raise funds for our organization."

During "Paws at the Pier," the Central Brevard Humane Society will also be unveiling its 22nd annual "Best Pets of Brevard Calendar," which highlights local pets while helping to support the homeless animals in the Brevard community.

Copies of the "Best Pets of Brevard" calendar will be available for purchase for $10 each.

"'Paws at the Pier' is one of the Central Brevard Humane Society's signature events that helps raise awareness and financial support for unwanted and abandoned pets, that visit the shelter each year," Ms. Cole said. "These pets need a safe and loving forever home."
