For Hometown News

The Museum of Arts & Sciences will welcome speakers, musicians and affiliates of the Smithsonian Institution to Daytona Beach beginning Sept. 6 for its third annual Septembers with the Smithsonian series of events.

A fellow Smithsonian Affiliate museum, the Orange County Regional History Center, has loaned the artworks in the exhibit "Highwaymen: African-American Folk Artists of Florida," which will be on exhibition through the fall.

Also, speakers will talk about archeology, biology and paleobiology, some of which will be highlighted in the Museum's Natural History Festival on Sept. 21.

For a complete schedule of events, visit moas.org

The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra will perform "Swingin' with the Smithsonian," featuring vocalist Lena Seikaly, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 28.

The orchestra will perform selections from the Ella Fitzgerald songbook.

Tickets to the evening event are $15 for museum members and $30 for non-members.

A special matinee concert for children, "Swingin' with the Smithsonian Junior" has been added to the concert schedule this year, and will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Admission to the children's concert is free for museum members and their children or $7 for non-members. Advance reservations for both concerts are recommended. Call (386) 255-0285 for reservations or for more information.

"Septembers with the Smithsonian was created to share the benefits of our Smithsonian Affiliation with our community. We are looking forward to each of this year's exciting events at MOAS," Museum Executive Director Andrew Sandall said.

More information about the Smithsonian Affiliations program and Affiliate activity is available at www.affiliations.si.edu

Smithsonian Museum Day Live is Sept. 28. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address. The Museum Day Live ticket is available for download at http://www. smithsonianmag.com/museumday. This ticket is not valid for "Swingin' with the Smithsonian" or "Swingin' with the Smithsonian Junior" concerts.
