Best-selling author will speak at Stetson

New York Times best-selling author Omar Tyree is coming to Stetson on Thursday, Sept. 12.

He will host two workshops for students in library 25L, a book signing at The Muse Book Shop in downtown DeLand and an evening lecture in the Stetson Room.

Mr. Tyree will be signing books from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at The Muse Book Shop in downtown DeLand. Advance copies of the The Traveler Series: "Welcome to DuBai" will be available.

His free lecture: "The Equation for Success," a discussion on the four key components of all successful businesses based on Mr. Tyree's business book, will be at 7 p.m. in the Stetson Room. More than just another business self-help book, The Equation is a groundbreaking formula that looks at how all business is an art.

Quick painting class set

"Paint Your Art Out" will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 14, at The Hub on Canal, 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

Participants will create a finished acrylic painting in two hours.

This class is for any experience level. Cost is $35 per person and includes all art supplies.

Gallery walk slated

The first Saturday Gallery Walk and Hub Changing Gallery Opening entitled "Mixed Bag" will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

Hub artists Cindy Burkett, Don Kennedy, Mike Krecek, Marilyn Leverton, Louise Lieber and Kathy O'Meara will be exhibiting two and three-dimensional works in the Hub Changing Gallery.

Music will be by keyboardist Kat Kirchner playing classical, contemporary, and originals.

The event is free and open to the public.

Show runs thru Sept. 28.

Auditions planned

The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach will have auditions for a new play written by Little Theatre member Karen Poulsen. "Defending Lizzie" will be directed by Shelly Wawrzonek and will be performed from Oct. 25 through Nov. 3.

"Defending Lizzie" is the untold story of Lizzie Borden and the "Crime of the Century."

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, and Monday, Sept.16, at 726 Third Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

Painting classes offered

Beau Wild will offer several art classes in September at The Hub on Canal, 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

Classes will be offered in drawing and painting for beginners and beyond.

Classed are $30 per class and include all supplies.

Art Guild work on display

The Ormond Beach Art Guild will be displaying works of art during September at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.

The art is a collection in oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastels done by guild members.

Daytona Playhouse will have auditions for "The Butler did it" at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, and Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 100 Jessamine Blvd., Daytona Beach.

DSC Yule feast tickets going on sale

Daytona State College's Yuletide Feast tickets will go on sale on at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.

In December, join the Lords & Ladies of the Royal Court for an evening of feasting, singing and merriment as they celebrate the Christmas season. The singing, dancing and dialogue are accompanied by the Halifax Consort Early Music Ensemble and the Daytona State College Brass Choir.

The event will be at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9-12 in the Goddard Performance Hall on the college's Daytona Beach Campus.

Winedown at Lilian Place

The Heritage Trust will host a Riverfront Winedown from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Lilian Place, 111 Silver Beach Ave., Daytona Beach.

Sip a glass of wine while listening to classic rock. Darryl Gentry will be on hand to sign his book on the History of Rock 'N' Roll.

Bring your jewels and treasures for evaluation by Stacy and Tracy Masterpiece Jewelers.

The event will kick off Mr. Gentry's six-week educational program.

Sign up for the class, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Lilian Place or call (386) 763-4152. The cost is $20.

The winedown cost is $5 for nonmembers.
