VERO BEACH -- With new games and new prizes, Mirage Arcade in Vero Beach is back and open for business.

Mirage Arcade was closed for part of the summer, but staff has revamped the business plan to be in compliance with new state laws regarding adult arcades and are ready for guests to once again join the friendly atmosphere.

Peggy "Piper" Collins, manager of Mirage Arcade, said instead of offering gift cards as prizes for winning games on the arcade-style machines, customers earn points from the games and can redeem them by selecting prizes on display in the store.

Fishing poles, coffee makers, fans, flat screen TVs and pressure washers are just some of the prizes available to be redeemed, Ms. Collins said.

At some point in September, Mirage Arcade will have an official grand re-opening event with dinner and door prizes, but the business will be open regular hours before the event takes place.

When guests come in, they are escorted to the machine they would like to use and an employee sets up the game and takes the money to begin the games, Ms. Collins said.

Snacks, soda and water will soon be available for guests, as will a semi-park and ride system.

Because of the limited parking space close to the front doors of the arcade, employees are often available to escort guests back to their vehicles if they need some help getting around, Ms. Collins said.

Since the arcade reopened, the regulars have continued to visit, but they are disappointed that gift cards, and bingo games, are off the table, Ms. Collins said.

"Under the new laws, they cannot get gift cards, but we're trying to make it as easy as possible to choose the new gifts we have available. If anyone has a suggestion for what kind of gift they want to win, and they have enough equivalent points, we can even go out and get it," she said.

"We're really excited about our local people that have stood by us and all of the snowbirds who will come back and enjoy our facility," Ms. Collins said.

Business hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Mirage Arcade's policy is to allow entry for adult 21 and older only.

Mirage Arcade is located at 8195 20th St., Vero Beach. For more information, call (772) 563-0093.
