New ownership revamps pizza eatery

MELBOURNE -- Entrepreneur and chef Charlie Marchica strives to treat every one of his customers like family.

"They are all family," he said. "I know almost all of my customers, or I get to know them if I don't. I make sure everything is perfect, and, if they don't like it, I'll remake it until it is. I want them to feel comfortable, and I want them to feel like I am their cousin or brother."

Since taking over as owner of Genna Pizza Company five months ago, alongside his wife, Jeanine, Mr. Marchica, a Long Island native, has "gutted" everything from the former restaurant - changing the inside and all of the recipes to his liking to make for a better dining experience.

It is with his commitment to treating his guests like family and renovating everything about the pizza establishment that makes Genna Pizza Company's most important aspect all the more alluring - the food.

"My pizzas are the best," he said. "I buy premium ingredients for everything, and everything is made here in-house. My family is Italian on both sides. I had a guy from Sicily teach me how to make my dough, so I love Italian."

By purchasing premium ingredients and taking no shortcuts in delivering top-quality food, Mr. Marchica has created a variety of delicious pizza, with cheese that melts and delights taste buds, and uses Boar's Head meats to give each slice an extra kick of freshness.

However, the high quality of ingredients has no negative impact on his customers' wallet.

"I understand that people don't want to spend a lot of money for dinner," he said. "I don't mind taking less on my end and giving my customers a real pizza for a decent price."

At Genna Pizza Company, diners can choose from familiar favorites, such as cheese pizza and supreme pizzas, but, as Mr. Marchica said, what really separates the eatery from other pizza places is its variety of experimental pies.

The Four Seasons-style pizza offers diners an experience of a variety of Italian toppings into one delicious blend, and the eatery's white pizza is sure to satisfy the most vigorous pizza critic.

And, if a diner isn't in the mood for pizza, Genna Pizza Company also offers a variety of subs, including the delicious meatball sub, with melted cheese and homemade bread.

At the end of a meal, diners can enjoy either an Italian staple, such as a cannoli, or a fantastic piece of cheesecake.

In the future, Mr. Marchica said he hopes to open a second restaurant, but, at the end of the day, the one thing he takes the most pride in is providing his customers at his current location with high-quality products at a low price.

"There is just no reason to be like everyone else," he said.

Genna Pizza Company is located at 4301 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
