Be a part history as the Volusia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Latin American culture at an inaugural event in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of discovery of "La Florida" by Juan Ponce DeLeon on Aug. 30-31 and Sept. 1.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony of Viva Volusia's first Latino cultural festival in Daytona Beach will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Manatee Park Island, 325 N. Beach St., Daytona Beach.
The ceremony will begin with the presentation of "Las Americas" flags, following greetings by dignitaries.
The festival will have live entertainment all three days. Plus, there will be international food trucks, arts and crafts, kids games and vendors. Admission is free.
There will be Shriner's health screening clinic at the festival from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Entertainment after the ceremony is as follows:
Mariachi Nuevo Guadalajara, a Mexican Mariachi group, will perform at 4 p.m. The Orlando group is one of the best at interpreting the Mexican folkloric music from joy to huapangos, and rancheras, the romantic Mexican music.
The Hispanic American Youth Group of Deltona, a folkloric dance group, will perform at 6 p.m.
Members dress in authentic costumes and have learned the native folk dances of different Hispanic countries.
Jose Rivera and Friends, a Salsa, Boleros, Latin pop group will perform at 7:30 p.m.
Playing the best of salsa, cha cha, Latin rock and American favorites with a Latin beat, the band features Janice Vasquez and Tish Nicholson.
Grupo Swing, a Merengue, Bachata group, will perform at noon.
Comedian Will Speed takes the stage at 1 p.m.
El Zaguan Rock, a Colombian Latin rock band, will perform at 2p.m.
Keven y Ery featuring Yan, a Reggaeton group, will perform at 4 p.m.
Karin with Peru Art & Danza Peru Jax, a Peruvian singer with dancers hits the stage at 6 p.m.
Union Perfecta, a Salsa, Merengue, pop group, will perform at 8 p.m.
New Smyrna Beach pop artist Alex Meagher takes the stage at noon.
Freestyle dance artist Nyasia will perform at 1 p.m.
Gabriel Casiano, a Puerto Rican pop rock artist, will perform at 2 p.m.
R&B group Trae Pierce and The Stone Crew will perform at 4 p.m.
The Raquel Tacon Group of Flamenco dancers will perform at 6 p.m.
Colombian Vallenato Duo Nalexy Valle will perform at 7 p.m.
Salsa band Glen Vargas y su Rico Tumbao hit the stage at 8 p.m.
