Youth chorus to hold auditions for singers
The Brevard Children's Chorus will hold auditions for singers in grades fourth through 10th on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Road, in Melbourne.
Membership in the nonprofit chorus is open to students in public, private, charter and home-schools. Both boys and girls are encouraged to audition.

Ms. Slawson noted that the choral experience is helpful in numerous ways for youth singers.
The select group of youngsters performs at venues and events throughout Brevard.
Recent performances include the Family Concert with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra at the King Center, a Viera holiday concert with the Indialantic Chamber Singers, Fall for the Arts in the Eau Gallie Arts District, a "flash mob" at the Melbourne Beach Public Library and more.
The group will perform again with the Indialantic Chamber Singers on Dec. 1 in Cocoa Beach.
Auditions for Elvis Christmas Special
This is musical about Elvis rise to fame. Auditions will be held at the Melbourne Civic Theatre on Aug. 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. both nights.
Needed are four men and four women.
Please bring a CD/USB, with a 60-second song that shows your voice range. Be prepared to have a dance/ movement audition, as well.
The show will be a nostalgic look back at Elvis Presley through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
The show is directed by Peg Girard, with set design by Alfred Eckert, musical direction by Alfred Eckert, technical direction and lighting design by Alan Selby and sound design by Wendy Reader.
The dates of the performance are Nov. 29 and 30; Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 23 at 8 p.m.; and Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 24 at 2 p.m. - a total of 14 performances. Alfie Silva will perform as Elvis.

'Zoom' at the gallery
Members of the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery will present works that reach inside subjects and minds to find the inner beauty, now through Aug. 30.

Helen Wheatley was recently recognized for her services on behalf of the Central Brevard Art Association as its youth scholarship award chairperson.
Ms. Wheatley was among several volunteers, who were rewarded for their efforts to promote art and artists in Brevard County.

News from Space Coast Doll Artists
The Space Coast Doll Artists, a doll-making club located based in the Melbourne area, will have an exhibit of one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted art dolls at the Cocoa Beach Public Library, 550 N. Brevard Ave, Cocoa Beach, now through Aug. 31.
All of the dolls were created by members of the club and display a variety of techniques, materials and embellishments.
Space Coast Art Dolls Club meets on the third Friday of every month. The purpose of the club is to further the enjoyment and appreciation of art dolls, develop individual creativity, help dollmakers grow in excellence as doll artisans, and promote doll making as an art.

Local artists in show
The St. Augustine Art Association's juried invitational Nature and Wildlife Art Exhibition, called "Aesthetics of Nature," opened July 27 and will run through Aug. 31.
Brevard County artists and members of Ten Women in Art, Becky Beerensson and Nancy Dillen, have work in the exhibit. They are "Tenacity," a dry-brushed ink painting by Ms. Beerensson and "Wind Catchers," an oil painting by Ms. Dillen.
The St. Augustine Art Association is located at 22 Marine St., St. Augustine, and is open Tuesday through Saturday noon to 4 p.m., Sunday 2-5 p.m.

Artists needed for festival
Visual artists in all categories are invited to participate in the 17th Annual ArtWorks of Eau Gallie Fine Arts Festival. The 2013 Festival will be on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24 in the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne.
This juried festival features 80 artists, who not only display their works, but also create new works in their booths.
Cash awards total $16,500.

Opening reception of '100% Pure' exhibition
The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery invites you to join in for the opening of the exhibit, "100%Pure Florida 2013" Juried Exhibition.
Artists from all over the state entered this competition, and winners are chosen by a panel from the gallery.
The show is always an eclectic montage, highlighting the various talented artists who live throughout the state. Winners in years past have come from as far away as St. Augustine and Miami.
Visit with the artists, as you peruse the artwork and enjoy light refreshments at the opening reception, Friday Sept. 6, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibit runs Tuesday Sept. 3, through Saturday Sept. 28.

'Noche de Gala:' a black tie art show
This is a charity art show to benefit Nana's House and a night with a touch of class, for art appreciation and charitable intentions to benefit.
There will be a wine selection, provided by Florida Wine and Spirits.
The event will be from 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Crane Creek Medical Center in Melbourne.
A series of entertainers, with two separate jazz bands, SugaWack and Bayside High school's Jazz Band, as well as Marc DeSouza and Maria Ameijeiras with her vocal talents, will be featured.
The event will be photographed by Cheryl Clermont, spacecoast photographer.

During this event, Jerry Hanzl will return to amaze with a whole new bag of digital tricks.
His wife, Cher, will again be photographing the guests and artists, and Mr. Hanzl will use those images to create a wild and imaginative slideshow.
This evening will highlight the power of digital photography and Adobe Photoshop, one of the artist's favorite tools.

The Strawbridge Art League has announced that the art from the Florida 500 art show (take in last March) is at the last exhibit location in the Mayor's Gallery at Orlando's City Hall. Luis M.
