Army Corp of Engineers to hold public meeting Aug. 16

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management will hold a public meeting on Friday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss using sand from offshore of St. Lucie County and other South Florida areas for the re-nourishment of beaches in Miami-Dade County. The meeting will be held in the St. Lucie County Commissioner Chambers of the Roger Poitras Annex of the County Administration Complex, 2300 Virginia Ave.

The sand sources being considered for the Miami-Dade Federal Project are based on the Southeast Florida Sediment Assessment and Needs Determination Study prepared in partnership between the State, the Corp and the affected Counties. For residents that cannot attend the St. Lucie County public meeting on Friday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the County Commission Chambers, 2300 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce; the Martin County public meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Indian River State College's Wolfe Center, 2400 S.E. Salerno Road, Stuart.

Workshop being held Aug. 13

The Fort Pierce Branch Library will host a "How to Start a Small Business" workshop presented by Service Corps of Retired Executives from 5-7 p.m.

A member of SCORE will tackle topics such as:

Startup Fundamentals

Marketing and Business Planning

Capital, Credit, Permits, Licenses and Employment

Business Structure, Taxation and Regulation

This event is free and open to the public.
